Job description
AU-Startups is sourcing this Product Design Intern role on behalf of an African mobility company. Specific company details are shared with shortlisted candidates. This three-month paid internship focuses on contributing to a design system and shipping tangible UX improvements within a mobility product. You will work within a team focused on developing solutions for users in African markets, gaining exposure to the unique challenges and opportunities within this sector.
Key responsibilities

- Contribute to the existing design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across the product suite.
- Design and iterate on user flows and interfaces for key features within the mobility platform.
- Conduct user research to understand the needs and pain points of users in diverse African contexts.
- Translate research insights into wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure design feasibility and proper implementation of UI/UX improvements.
- Participate in design reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to elevate design quality.
Outcomes you'll be measured on
- Deliver at least one significant UX improvement to a core product feature within the first three months, as measured by user feedback or analytics.
- Contribute a minimum of three new, well-documented components to the design system.
- Present findings from at least two user research initiatives, outlining actionable design recommendations.
Requirements
- A portfolio showcasing at least one end-to-end product design project.
- Proficiency in Figma for wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design.
- Demonstrated curiosity about user behaviors and market specifics within African contexts.
- Foundational understanding of user-centered design principles.
- Ability to articulate design decisions and rationale clearly.
